Building Always-On Social Power in Travel Retail

Context
Industry: Luxury Skincare / Travel Retail / Social Commerce
The Problem:
On Xiaohongshu, organic content has a short life. In many cases, visibility begins to decay within just 14 days, turning sustained brand presence into an expensive cycle of constant new creation.
For La Mer, this created a structural challenge. The brand’s social visibility had been heavily concentrated around campaign bursts and KOL deployment windows. While that model could generate strong Share of Voice during peak moments, it also left the brand exposed between activations, precisely when competitors continued to accumulate attention, search intent, and social proof.
In a category crowded with prestige players such as Lancôme, Chanel, Clé de Peau, and Shiseido, intermittent visibility was no longer enough. To sustain leadership in travel retail, La Mer needed a system that could maintain buzz, extend content value, and improve media efficiency over time.
Solution
We shifted La Mer from episodic social bursts to an always-on KFS model, designed to continuously oxygenate content, preserve momentum, and capture demand at multiple layers of the platform.
- Strategic Pivot to Algorithmic Precision: Moved away from a mass-spending approach and built a more efficient operating model based on Xiaohongshu’s KFS framework: KOL/KOC content, Feeds amplification, and Search interception.
- KOL/KOC as Belief Asset Creation: Curated creator partnerships and premium storytelling formats that could produce high-value, trust-building content assets aligned with the premium traveler mindset.
- Feeds as Momentum Infrastructure: Used paid feeds not simply for reach, but to scale promising content into larger waves of interest, extending the lifespan of posts that would otherwise decay too quickly.
- Search as Intent Capture: Built a search-led layer that intercepted high-intent users at key research moments, allowing evergreen content to continue performing long after its original post date.
- Always-On Budget Logic: Structured budget deployment differently across campaign and non-campaign periods, using content recycling, search dominance, and selective boosting to sustain a healthy baseline of buzz throughout the year.
- Continuous Optimization Loop: Refined content quality, creator selection, keyword strategy, and media allocation in real time, transforming social activity into a more durable and efficient performance engine.
